Larry Ellison Short biography
Lawrence Joseph Ellison, born August 17, 1944, is an American businessman, philanthropist, and entrepreneur who co-founded the software company Oracle Corporation. He served as Oracle's chief executive officer from 1977 to 2014 and is currently its chief technology officer and executive chairman.
Born in New York City, Ellison was adopted by his aunt and uncle in Chicago after his mother was unable to care for him. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign but dropped out before graduating. In the early 1970s, Ellison worked as a programmer for various companies before co-founding Oracle in 1977.
Oracle initially developed a database management system for the CIA, but it soon expanded into other markets. Under Ellison's leadership, Oracle became one of the largest and most successful software companies in the world.
