Wladimir Klitschko was born on March 25, 1976, in Semipalatinsk, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union, to Vladimir Rodionovich Klitschko, a Soviet Air Force major general, and Nadezhda Ulyanovna Klitschko, a teacher. His father's military career meant the family moved frequently, including stints in Czechoslovakia and Ukraine. Wladimir has an older brother, Vitali, who also became a successful professional boxer.
Klitschko showed academic talent alongside his athletic prowess. He earned a doctorate in sports science from the Kyiv National University of Physical Education and Sport while pursuing his boxing career.
