Jason Kent Bateman (born January 14, 1969) is an American actor, director, and producer. He began his career as a child actor in the early 1980s, rising to teen idol status before a significant career resurgence as an adult. He is the younger brother of actress Justine Bateman. Born in Rye, New York, he moved with his family to California and started working professionally around age 10. Bateman married actress and producer Amanda Anka (daughter of singer Paul Anka) in 2001, and the couple has two daughters. Following his early success, Bateman experienced a career downturn in the 1990s before gaining critical acclaim for his role in the sitcom Arrested Development in 2003, which successfully transitioned his career into mature comedy and drama.
