Carol Tomé Short biography
Carol Tomé is an American business executive who has held leadership roles at The Home Depot and United Parcel Service (UPS). She is known for her financial acumen and strategic vision, and has been recognized as one of the most powerful women in business by Forbes and Fortune magazines.
Tomé was born in Jackson, Wyoming, and raised in a family that emphasized hard work and independence. She graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in business and began her career as a commercial lender at United Bank of Denver. She later held positions at Johns-Manville Corporation and Riverwood International Corporation before joining The Home Depot in 1995.
At The Home Depot, Tomé played a key role in the company's growth from 400 stores to 2,200 with revenue of nearly $100 billion. She was promoted to CFO in 2001 and led the company's financial strategy during the 2008-09 financial crisis. Tomé retired from The Home Depot in 2019 but was soon named CEO of UPS, where she had been a member of the board of directors since 2003.
