Takeshi Kitano Short biography
Takeshi Kitano is a Japanese comedian, actor, filmmaker, and television personality. He is best known for his deadpan comedic style, his violent yakuza films, and his work as a television host. Kitano has won numerous awards for his work, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for his film Hana-bi.
Kitano was born in Tokyo in 1947. He began his career as a comedian in the 1970s, and became a popular television personality in the 1980s. He made his directorial debut in 1989 with the film Violent Cop, and has since directed over 20 films. Kitano's films are often characterized by their violence, dark humor, and exploration of Japanese culture.
