Michael Bloomberg Short biography
Michael Rubens Bloomberg, born February 14, 1942, is an American businessman, politician, and philanthropist. He served as the 108th mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013 and was a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president of the United States. He is the majority owner and co-founder of Bloomberg L.P., a financial information and media company.
Bloomberg was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to a Jewish family. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1964 and Harvard Business School in 1966. After working for Salomon Brothers, he founded Bloomberg L.P. in 1981. The company became one of the most successful financial information companies in the world.
In 2001, Bloomberg was elected mayor of New York City as a Republican. He left the Republican Party in 2007 and was re-elected as an independent in 2009. As mayor, he focused on improving education, public health, and infrastructure. He also implemented several gun control measures.
