Jeff Bezos is an American entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist who founded, chairs, and is the chief executive officer of Amazon.com—the world's largest online retailer. Bezos also founded aerospace manufacturer and suborbital spaceflight services company Blue Origin. In August 2013, he purchased the American newspaper The Washington Post. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bezos was raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science. After graduating from Princeton, Bezos worked on Wall Street in a variety of related fields from 1986 to early 1994. In 1994, he left his job at D.E. Shaw & Co. to open an online bookstore called Amazon.com. The company began as an online bookseller and later expanded into a wide variety of products and services, including music, videos, electronics, apparel, home furnishings, and more. Amazon is now one of the world's most valuable companies.
Bezos is known for his customer-centric approach, his willingness to take risks, and his focus on long-term thinking. He has been named Time Person of the Year and Forbes Entrepreneur of the Year. He is also one of the richest people in the world.
