Luis Suarez Short biography
Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a striker for Nacional and the Uruguay national team. Widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, Suárez has scored over 500 goals for club and country. He is the seventh-highest goalscorer in the history of football, and the third-highest goalscorer in the history of the UEFA Champions League.
Born in Salto, Uruguay, Suárez began his career with Nacional, where he won the Uruguayan Primera División in 2005–06. He moved to Europe in 2006, joining Dutch club Groningen. After a single season, he was signed by Ajax, where he won the Eredivisie title in 2010–11. In 2011, he joined Liverpool, where he won the League Cup in 2011–12 and the Premier League Golden Boot in 2013–14. He then moved to Barcelona, where he won the La Liga title four times, the Copa del Rey twice, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. In 2020, he joined Atlético Madrid, where he won the La Liga title in 2020–21.
Suárez has also had a successful international career, helping Uruguay win the 2011 Copa América and the 2018 China Cup. He is Uruguay's all-time leading goalscorer, with 68 goals.
