Ian Thorpe, nicknamed "Thorpedo" or "Thorpey," is an Australian former swimmer and entrepreneur who specialized in freestyle. He rose to fame by overcoming his chlorine allergy to become one of the greatest swimmers of all time, earning a total of five Olympic gold medals, the most won by any Australian until swimmer Emma McKeon tied that record. Thorpe's achievements include 13 individual long-course world records, 11 World Championship gold medals, and four Swimming World Swimmer of the Year awards.
