Michael Moritz Short biography
Michael Moritz is a Welsh-born American billionaire venture capitalist, philanthropist, and former journalist. He is known for his work at Sequoia Capital, his investments in Google, Yahoo!, and PayPal, and his philanthropy.
Moritz was born in Cardiff, Wales, to Jewish parents who fled Nazi Germany. He studied history at Christ Church, Oxford, and then earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Moritz began his career as a journalist, working for Time magazine and writing a book about the development of the Macintosh computer. In 1986, he joined Sequoia Capital, where he has been a partner for over three decades. He has invested in some of the most successful tech companies in the world, including Google, Yahoo!, and PayPal.
Moritz is also a philanthropist and has donated millions of dollars to educational institutions and charitable causes. He is a signatory of The Giving Pledge, committing himself to give away at least 50% of his wealth to charitable causes.
