Scarlett Johansson was born in Manhattan, New York City, on November 22, 1984. Her mother, Melanie Sloan, is a producer and actress, and her father, Karsten Johansson, is a Danish-born architect. Johansson has two older siblings, Vanessa and Adrian, and a twin brother, Hunter.
Johansson began acting at a young age. She made her professional debut at eight in the off-Broadway play Sophistry. In 1994, she made her film debut in the comedy North.
