Aleksandar Vucic Short biography
Aleksandar Vučić is a Serbian politician serving as the president of Serbia since 2017. A member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), he previously served as the president of the SNS from 2012 to 2023, first deputy prime minister from 2012 to 2014, and prime minister of Serbia from 2014 to 2017.
Vučić is a controversial figure, with some observers describing his rule as authoritarian, autocratic, or illiberal democratic. He has been criticized for curtailing press freedom, suppressing critical voices, and consolidating power. Despite this, he remains a popular politician in Serbia, and his SNS party has won several elections.
