Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, is known for his dedication to human rights, peacemaking efforts, and post-presidential humanitarian work. Born in 1924 in Plains, Georgia, Carter served as a peanut farmer, U.S. Navy officer, and Georgia state senator before becoming governor in 1971.
