Warren Buffett is an American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. He is currently the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. As a result of his immense investment success, Buffett is one of the best-known fundamental investors in the world.
Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 30, 1930. He developed an interest in business and investing at a young age. At the age of 11, he bought his first stock, three shares of Cities Service Preferred. He also started his own business, selling used golf balls.
After graduating from high school, Buffett attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studied business administration. He then transferred to Columbia University, where he studied under the legendary investor Benjamin Graham.
After graduating from Columbia, Buffett returned to Omaha and started working as a securities analyst. In 1956, he founded Buffett Associates, a partnership that invested in securities. Buffett Associates was a huge success, and by 1969, Buffett had accumulated a net worth of over $1 million.
Buffett is a value investor. He looks for companies that are trading at a discount to their intrinsic value. He is also a long-term investor. He is willing to hold companies for many years, even if they underperform in the short term.
