Anil Ambani Short biography
Anil Ambani is an Indian businessman, investor, and philanthropist with a net worth of US$2.5 billion as of March 2024. He is best known as the owner, chairman, and CEO of the conglomerate Reliance Group, which was created in 2006 from a demerger of the family company Reliance Industries.
Ambani was born on June 4, 1959, in Mumbai, India. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kishinchand Chellaram College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After working for Reliance Industries for several years, he founded Reliance Group in 2006.
Reliance Group is a diversified conglomerate with interests in telecommunications, energy, financial services, and infrastructure. Ambani has been credited with leading the company to great success, but he has also been involved in a number of legal disputes.
In 2019, Ambani was held in criminal contempt for non-payment of debt. He was also ordered to pay $716 million to three Chinese banks. In 2021, he was named in the Pandora Papers, which revealed that he had secret offshore accounts.
