Sergey Brin Short biography
Sergey Mikhailovich Brin, born August 21, 1973, is an American computer scientist, philanthropist, and internet entrepreneur who co-founded Google with Larry Page. Brin was president of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., from August 2015 to December 2019. He and Page remain at Alphabet as co-founders, controlling shareholders, and board members.
Brin was born in Moscow, Soviet Union, to Jewish parents. His father, Mikhail Brin, is a mathematics professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, and his mother, Eugenia Brin, is a researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Brin's family emigrated to the United States when he was six years old. He attended the University of Maryland, where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science in 1993. He then went on to Stanford University, where he met Larry Page.
In 1996, Brin and Page co-founded Google in a garage in Menlo Park, California. The company's search engine quickly became one of the most popular in the world, and Google has since expanded into a wide range of other businesses, including advertising, cloud computing, and self-driving cars.
Brin has been recognized for his contributions to technology with numerous awards, including the Marconi Prize in 2004, the National Medal of Technology in 2009, and the Prince of Asturias Award in 2012. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
