Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, born April 19, 1957, is an Indian billionaire businessman, chairman, managing director, and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), a conglomerate with interests including energy, petrochemicals, textiles, retail, and telecommunications.
Ambani was born in Aden, Yemen, to Dhirubhai Ambani, a Gujarati businessman who had emigrated from India. The family moved to Mumbai when Ambani was six years old. He studied chemical engineering at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai and then went on to Stanford University to pursue an MBA.
After graduating from Stanford, Ambani returned to India to join his father's business. He played a key role in expanding Reliance Industries into a conglomerate with interests in a wide range of industries. Under his leadership, Reliance has become one of the largest and most profitable companies in India.
Ambani is also the owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team Mumbai Indians and the Indian Super League (ISL) football team Mumbai City FC. He is a member of the International Advisory Council of the New York Stock Exchange and the Brookings Institution India Center Advisory Council.
