Venus Williams Short biography
Venus Ebony Starr Williams is an American professional tennis player. A former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Williams has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Williams was born in Lynwood, California, on June 17, 1980. She and her younger sister, Serena Williams, were introduced to tennis by their father, Richard Williams, at a very young age. Richard had a vision for his daughters to become the best tennis players in the world, and he homeschooled them so that they could focus on their training.
Venus turned professional in 1994 at the age of 14. She quickly rose through the ranks of the WTA Tour, winning her first Grand Slam singles title, Wimbledon, in 2000. She went on to win Wimbledon four more times (2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008) and the US Open twice (2000 and 2001).
In addition to her success in singles, Venus has also been a dominant force in doubles. She has won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles, all with her sister Serena.
