Amal Clooney Short biography
Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin; Arabic: أمل كلوني; born 3 February 1978) is a Lebanese-British barrister who specializes in international law and human rights. She is married to actor George Clooney.
Clooney was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and moved to England with her family when she was two years old. She studied law at the University of Oxford and New York University School of Law. After graduating, she worked as a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City and at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
In 2010, Clooney was called to the Bar of England and Wales and began working as a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers. She has represented clients in a number of high-profile cases, including former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed.
Clooney is also an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School and a visiting professor at the University of Oxford. She is the co-founder of the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which supports human rights causes around the world.
