Fabio Capello Short biography
Fabio Capello is an Italian football manager and former professional footballer. As a player, he captained both A.C. Milan and the Italy national team, winning several Serie A titles and reaching the final of the 1970 FIFA World Cup. He later embarked on a successful managerial career, winning league titles in Italy, Spain, and England, as well as guiding Real Madrid to victory in the UEFA Champions League.
Born in San Canzian d'Isonzo, Italy, Capello began his playing career with SPAL in 1964. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Italy, and in 1967 he was signed by A.C. Milan. Capello spent the next 11 seasons with Milan, winning four Serie A titles and reaching the final of the European Cup in 1973. He also captained the Italy national team from 1972 to 1978, leading the team to the final of the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
After retiring from playing in 1979, Capello began his managerial career with Milan's youth team. He was appointed manager of the first team in 1991, and led the team to five Serie A titles in six seasons. He also guided Milan to victory in the UEFA Champions League in 1994.
In 1996, Capello left Milan to become manager of Real Madrid. He won the La Liga title in his first season in charge, but was sacked in 1997 after a falling out with the club's president. He returned to Milan in 1997, and won another Serie A title in 1999.
In 2000, Capello was appointed manager of the England national team. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2004 UEFA European Championship. He resigned from his post in 2006.
In 2007, Capello was appointed manager of Real Madrid for a second time. He won the La Liga title in his first season in charge, but was sacked in 2008 after a disappointing Champions League campaign.
In 2012, Capello was appointed manager of the Russia national team. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but resigned from his post in 2015.
Capello is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time. He has won league titles in four different countries, and has guided Real Madrid to victory in the UEFA Champions League.
